About Alison

Alison Gitelson’s professional career began in 1986 as an Optometrist in private practice. Since then she has had a number of successful careers culminating in her founding of CanBeeDone in August 2005.

CanBeeDone evolved out of Alison’s continuous study and interest in people and her passion for seeing them grow into their potential, particularly in leadership. Her years in business nurtured a similar passion for the success of small and medium size businesses.

CanBeeDone affords her the opportunity to share her practical knowledge, as well as her analytical and strategic talents with business owners. Whilst still in Optometric practice Alison began implementing financial management packages for a manufacturing concern, was awarded an SABS Design Institute award and consulted on optometric management software systems. This Information Technology experience drew her into the IT sector as an analyst, business unit manager and project manager dealing with the health, financial, organized labour and long-term insurance sectors.

Her next career change was into the HR and transformation environment at SARS where she managed a team of data analysts working on major projects as well as conceiving and implementing systems such as attendance management.

In parallel with her various ‘job’ roles Alison has owned a number of small businesses. Her special interest in wellness, has involved her as a volunteer counsellor at Headway – Gauteng; an organization that supports people with brain injury and their families.

She has been interviewed on Radio Today and iTV and is a contributor to Entrepreneur.co.za as well as a panellist for Business Day: Real Business’s Case Study.

When not occupied with her business Alison, who is married with two children, can be found sailing on the Vaal Dam, dancing to Latin American or Ballroom rhythms or relaxing in the Bush.
